West 8th is shaping up to be a great addition to the Seattle skyline along with a much appreciated street presence on the corner of Westlake and 8th. The crane is coming down now that the 28-story office building is almost complete, which is necessitating the closure of the surrounding streets. See the SDOT release for more details:
Beginning at 6 a.m. Monday morning, January 5, 8th Avenue will be closed from Virginia to Lenora Street for 16 days, until January 20. On the weekends of January 10-11 and January 17-18, Virginia will also be closed between 7th and 9th avenues. During the closure, Ness Cranes will be dismantling a large crane at the Westlake Plaza project located at 2001 8th Avenue. Police will continue to have access to the West Precinct via 9th Avenue, Virginia Street and 8th Avenue. The street closures are necessary for safety reasons due to the size of the crane and location.
